Brain Power Anyone?

Is there a single nutrient that is known to boost brain power? The answer is yes, and it is CoQ10. Research shows that CoQ10 boosts cellular energy in the brain, helping the brain to work better. Evidence shows it even helps to slow the progression of brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

CoQ10 is natural to the body and is used to help create energy in your cells. Unfortunately, CoQ10 becomes depleted with age, especially if you have health issues that use up extra amounts, as in the case of brain diseases. Studies have found that the majority of people over age forty-five are seriously deficient. By age seventy, levels can be so low that the aging process is tremendously accelerated. Statin drugs for cholesterol, which millions of people take daily, seriously deplete CoQ10. Not surprisingly, a growing body of research links a deficiency of CoQ10 with brain diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Meanwhile, a study in Parkinsonism and Related Disorders found that supplementing with CoQ10 improved Parkinson’s disease symptoms.

Even if you are not suffering from brain disease, taking CoQ10 daily is a good idea. It not only boosts brain energy, but heart energy, and energy throughout the body. It has also been shown to reverse biomarkers of diabetes and metabolic syndrome. As for dosage, 200 mg daily is the dose that has been used in most research studies. This amount has been shown to keep arteries relaxed and flexible. If you’re suffering from heart disease, cancer, or brain disease, you may need 400 mg. CoQ10 is amazingly safe and well tolerated by most people.

As usual, the quality of the product is critical. Unfortunately, there is an enormous amount of contradictory material out there on the Internet regarding CoQ10. It’s so confusing, you have to be a chemist to sort through it all. Many CoQ10 supplements, including some expensive brands, are made with a form of CoQ10 that is so poorly absorbed, it is worthless. Much CoQ10 is synthetic, yet all the studies that have shown benefits have been conducted with natural CoQ10. There are a lot of good reasons why I take CoQ10 every day; CoQ10 is one of the reasons I enjoy the boundless energy that keeps me functioning at a very high level despite being in my 80s.
